Which game would make the best TV show or movie?

If you could pick any classic Phantasy Star game to be adapted to a TV show or a movie, which one would you pick and why?

I would choose PSIV - I think it has the best overall and most complete storyline. PSI would be my second choice, mainly because it's the beginning and that's a great place to start.

I really want to say PSIV because I agree that the story is most complete in the games and one of my faves. I'm afraid a movie wouldn't do justice to all the references and the history that's hidden in it, though. I'd also want to say PSI, just because I love it so much, but that would probably come off as your typical fantasy movie and not much else.

So... I'm going to throw a vote in for PSII. I think its got enough to keep a moviegoer happy without having to spend too much time on backstory (that's what Lutz is for, isn't it? ) and it has one of those endings that will leave the audience with a "that's...the end?" feeling (if we assume they've never played.) Besides- Neifirst is an awesome villain.

Nice avatar, Lamanai! It made me  ! :D

I think it would be hard to adapt any of the games to a movie and still keep all the important story parts. PS1 would be the easiest to do that with, so I would start there. It would need a lot of computer generated sci-fi backgrounds in the towns and spaceships to offset the fantasy side.

PS4 would work best as a TV show or a series of movies, maybe a trilogy. It does have the most story, but that means a two hour movie would have to cut a lot of stuff out to get Chaz from rookie Hunter to Hero. If it were a trilogy, the first part could be about getting through Zio & Kuran, the second about Dezoris, and the third about Rykros and the final battle. That lets the first two movies end with a Dark Force. The third can start with Seth and end like the game. 8)

:blank: I'm not sure..

Generally speaking.. .. any kind of film adaptation.. is edited far too much, shortened.. etc.. It just ruins the experience, for me at least.

Well, Phantasy Star II probably has the most material you could cut, since there's some padding to begin with. Having one dam and dungeon on Dezoris would probably make the story flow better, and you don't have to worry about the effects on gameplay.

It would be hard to balance the editing with keeping the story for most of the games. I really think they would work better as a TV series than a movie because of that. PSII is about the only one I can see really being true to the game when adapted as a movie.

Phantasy Star IV would be the best suited for a TV show, like an anime or something, (movies are outta the question, far too much to cover!) but I think Phantasy Star II would be the most interesting. :)

A bit off topic, but this kind of reminds me of a very nice PSII comic I've seen by a talented artist...the way the story was told was pretty good, but he stopped making them for some reason. Shame, too.

I'd go with PSIV since it's got such a dynamic range of characters, and has plenty of climactic boss battles and the most exotic locations of the series. Hopefully it wouldn't get turned into a special-effects extravaganza!
