Wren vs Wren

Postby Thoul » Mon Jan 5, '09, 7:22 pm

Thanks to the wonders of localizations, we have two characters named Wren. Both are technical specialists and great at repairing broken machines. Both have lots of add-ons they can install. PSIII Wren's add-ons are all vehicles that somehow carry four people when they're only big enough for one, while PSIV Wren's add-ons are weapons of mass destruction.

Which Wren do you like the most?

I have to go with (For)Wren here, hands down, even though the localization has him making a really corny Lost in Space reference. Sure he doesn't have the most personality out of the cast of IV, but that works for him. Besides, he's gotta feel something if he can go and come up with someone like Demi. I will give (Shi)Wren some credit, however -- he's cute in the little doodles in the PSIII manual/Compendium, he's got that whole 'royal protector' thing going for him, and he's a VERY welcome speed boost when he finally gets his other parts.

I'd have to go with PSIV Wren not just because he has a great set of weapons. But because Sega fleshed him out more storywise and gave him personality not to mention I think him and Demi make a great pair together.

This is a tough one. I think I'd also go with PSIV Wren just because he seems to have more personality rather than just the standard "Robot" personality. Although PSIII Wren has more versatility when he gets his machine parts. Who wouldn't want to fly around in a speedy jet then have a tank of a character fighting along side you?

I prefer Searren over Forren. My reasoning could be as simple as, "PSIII came before PSIV and had Wren first." PSIV simply borrowed the idea and fleshed it out, as it did with several other characters. :p That, and who wouldn't want a comrade who could blast enemies one minute with a [insert type here]Shot and transform into a vehicle the next? ;p PSIII Wren is much more useful for this reason and essential to the quest, while PSIV Wren just gets interesting toys in battle (the optional units you go out of your way to find).

But then, it all depends on preference now doesn't it? :D

I like PSIII's Searren as well, only because, like Tsunami PSIV's Wren was just them taking a already created character and expanding on it a bit. I think PSIII woulda been a bit better with Wren transforming if they would have created special battles when in his transformations. When you're out at sea, why not fight some kinda fish demons or whatever, and in the sky you get to fight some sky enemies, as well as take Wren out of your active group, only because you're using him as your personal transportation at the time.. Plus all Wren in IV could do was blast things to hell and back, and magically transport machines that you don't really use most of the time to you somehow.

I remember when I first saw the PSIV box at stores, and when I realized that there was a "Wren" also in the game, I assumed it was the same Wren.

Both Wrens remind me of a certain starfleet officer, but more so PSIV Wren. The PSIV Wren had more interactions with the characters rather than being a backdrop with barely any dialogue.

PSIV Wren for me.
