Do you think Elsydeon is Alis' sword?

Postby Thoul » Tue Jul 24, '07, 2:53 am

There's a theory that suggests that Elsydeon from PSIV is actually Alis' Laconian Sword from PSI and the Nei Sword from PSII. Do think this is correct, or are they completely different things?

:? I don't think so.
Certainly not Alis' sword.. I mean.. you actually can buy Laco swords in PSIV .. it's stating the obvious, I know.. but.. eh.. ._. As for PSII's Nei Sword, I've never played it so.. I wouldn't know about that. :3

Then again... there isn't much to go on when it comes to the Elsydeon's creation..

It'd be a great tie-in to the series if it was, but I don't think so either. Like DD said, they're for sale in PSII-IV. How about Gryz's ax? Odin and his axes are the only Laconia Axes in existence.

How did Gryz even get it anyway? There's no Laco anywhere else on Motavia.. yet he comes with not only a Laco axe, but armour as well..

And the Defeat Axe is more powerful anyway.. :? If we're taking into account that the Laco axe was the most powerful one in PSI.. but then isn't in PSIV.

Good points! I don't remember where I read it, but I heard someone suggest that Gryz went on a quest to retrieve Odin's Axe while Chaz and co. were off on Dezo and Rykros. But an enemy in The Edge has a better one... I guess they have a good forge in that dimension? :irked:

Maybe Gryz's laco armor is Odin's, too? We do get Myau's and Noah's final weapons in PS4, so it would make sense to have Odin's major stuff as well.

On Alis' sword... I don't know. I doubt Elsydeon is that sword. I guess it could have been given power later. I doubt that would have been the case, though. Nei Sword might be Elsydeon, but I doubt that as well. I think it would have been a major thing to leave out of PS2. I mean, a chance for Rolf to meet his ancestor's spirit when getting his sword? That would have been too good to pass up.

I'm sure that in 2000 years, someone else had the idea of making more laco axes, too. Motavia may have a lot of laconia that was imported before civilization started to decline and reused for other things later.

There's nothing to really say that the axe or armor belonged to anyone but Gryz, but it is a nice thing to wonder about.

But not sell them? It's a plot hole.. only there because of.. well.. the fact that you don't have an axe user when you get to Dezolis.

So.. right, where is it? ._. And how did Gryz get some?

I'm reading too much into this. You're right, it is just interesting to think about.

It's still possible that the Laconian Sword from PSI is the Elsydeon, despite the fact that Laconian weapons can be bought from PSII and onwards. Lassic feared the Laconian Weapons from PSI, that means there's something special or maybe even holy about them which sets them apart from the regular Laconian weapons that can be bought in later games.
"Rolf, there's no hope for me. If Neifirst is dead, I must die, too."
And in so saying, Nei silently closed her eyes.
