Odd Cameos

Postby Thoul » Fri Mar 7, '08, 3:12 am

Last night I was playing Skies of Arcadia and ran into a ship battle against a monster named Raja. Then today, I was reading about some upcoming games a learned of a game called "Shiren the Wanderer," also from Sega. I found it a little funny that I happened to run into two semi-cameos of PS characters in other games: Raja from PSIV and Wren (also known as Shiren) from PSIII. Have you ever run into anything like that? Maybe there's another game out there with an Alys or a Demi?

My best friends name is Allison, not the exact same as Alys, but they look exactly alike except for their height, and when we mentioned how rune was making fun of chaz's height, which we do to her all the time, they're all like, hey this story is about you!
Everything has a pattern. Something set. Even random things. They aren't random at all, its complex mathematics. The trick is to find the pattern. Then you can exploit it.

People think things have a certain end. Taxes. Work. Due dates don't really exist. Trust me. When you put a band of world scholars in the same room, and set them on talking about anything, the most interesting topics come up. The existence of negative time. The probability of "random occurrence". The government's involvement in the media. And falsified due dates. They aren't real, trust me....

What did the Raja monster look like? And I'll never get over how many translations there are for PSIII Wren.

The Raja monster was a giant manta ray. It was a ship battle, I think one that could be repeated a lot. Kind of weird, but I just thought it was a funny little connection.

It was a short animation SEGA released but it’s in Japanese. Here’s another one with Myaw and his/hers genetic/engineering “descendents”. I’ll try to find the video's link.

I didn’t knew this images/video existed. It's always good to find new things and special to see our heroes in "anime" style.

Ok, I found where this cameo comes from. It's a Sega Dream Cast game called "Segagaga" or SGGG for short. It has many Sega characters with some emphasis on the heroine Arisa, who helps "sega boy" save the world. (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Segaga)

Wikipedia wrote:Set in the year 2025, the story depicts Sega with only a 3% share of the market. In Ōta, Tokyo (where Sega was first set up in Japan 1951), the company forms 'Project Segagaga': a plan to save SEGA from its main competitor, the evil DOGMA (Which is clearly intended to be Sony, Sega's biggest competitor at the time). As part of Project Segagaga, Sega takes two teenagers Tarō Sega (瀬賀太郎 Sega Tarō) (the player's character) and Yayoi Haneda (羽田弥生 Haneda Yayoi), and employ them to guide Sega to the top of the market. The game features cameo appearances from Sega characters past and present such as Alex Kidd and Sonic the Hedgehog. The game also references things associated with Sony's PS1 and PS2. Several hidden games are parodies.

Here's the link for animations that include PS characters:

This game had potential to be a great game with all the sega cameo's and stuff but it seems like they went a bit overboard not dealing with alot of animation and with the randomness of the whole game. Alis Odin and Lutz being like FBI agents or something kinda cracked me up at that one spot. This game seems like it was Sega's attempt at trying to make a parody game, that whole R-Type and Gradius bit was extreme with all the systems transforming.. I've downloaded this on my computer and tested it out its a unique game, odd but its real unique.

It seems like this would be a blast to play. The game looks crazy as can be. It's nice to see Phantasy Star getting recognized as part of Sega's history here, even if it is only briefly.
