Most of the USA and other areas are experiencing extreme cold temperatures and weather this week, even for Winter season:

One weatherman said it was warmer in Alaska today than parts of the USA because they are having a warm spell up there.

Tomorrow I'll be in the thick of this storm that I've heard referred to as a "bomb cyclone," so called because of how fast the pressure in the center of the storm is going to drop, which means intensification. I've also heard it called a winter hurricane. As it stands now it's slightly warmer today than it has been in the recent past, but we're under a winter storm warning - I am expecting it to become a blizzard warning at some point because the forecasts just keep getting worse, and Cape Cod and the North Shore are both now under blizzard warning, which indicates that the track is shifting westward. There's also hurricane force wind warnings just off Cape Cod's easternmost shore.

I just got in from shoveling all that snow. It was bitterly cold, the snow came up to my hips and the wind was strong enough to knock me off balance at times. Glad to be inside and glad I didn't have to go in yesterday and can work from home today.
