Even if Irma does lose steam by the time it reaches you, Silver, don't understand the potential of sheer rainfall. It's a big system so if it comes near you, even if you won't get storm surge or particularly ferocious winds, it can still dump a ton of rain and cause flooding, and flooding, from both rain and surge, is always the biggest killer in these things. Glad you're preparing, and stay safe.

Hopefully Jose will remain a general non-threat, but it's worth watching until we're sure. There's still a chance it could make a more northern landfall instead of curve back out into the ocean.

Irma, from what I've read will probably be a Cat 2 Hurricane when it hits my area, which probably won't be fun - but I don't really have much of anything I can do about it other than continue on with "Business as usual".
I feel the way you would

Right now it's the southwest tip of Florida that's forecast to the take the brunt of it with a 10+ foot surge. Not good for them. Miami appears to have dodged a direct hit.

Hurricane Irma has now hit Florida as a Category 3 hurricane, I believe it is. Right now I am watching the news coverage on ABC television as this storm is happening. They will be covering the storm all day today, I think they said. The storm has shifted position or direction from what they originally thought it would be, but that was to be expected as they really did not know for certain until it hit. Lots of wind, rain, and destruction.

Also some looting of stores there in parts of Florida already. Hard to believe anyone could think of looting at a time like this, but I guess sadly it does happen.

Everyone stay safe. Hukos, we are thinking of you and hoping you stay safe!

Well, Irma is winding down a bit. Last I heard I think it may have been a tropical storm again, but not sure on that. So far we have not had any very bad weather here outside of some rain, winds, and drops in temperature, etc. It has gotten pretty chilly. No power outages in our immediate area although I understand from watching the news that some surrounding areas have some outages. More rain and winds expected through the night tonight. Hopefully tomorrow this will all be over. Florida really took a hit though. Sad to see pictures of all the destruction there. But, so glad it wasn't any worse than it actually was.
