Well, it's voluntary, which is the better way to do it. If it was mandatory I'd have a problem with it. As long as the chips aren't used for excessive monitoring and that and seems to be used for employee convenience, I don't see the problem with it. In a way it seems to be more or less exactly how I use my own ID card at work - it's an ID scanner for me to get into my department, and nothing more. Sure you can argue slippery slope, but then I'd argue that slippery slope started with ID cards with magnetic stripes.
And for note, we recently microchipped our cats.
