Midland County, MI dam breaks

In the next county over from where I live. Been following the Amateur radio chatter since last night. But what happens Sunday and Monday we got hammered with a lot of rain in a pretty short amount of time. To the point that the rivers got filled. However what complicates matters is that two dams decided to give way and has added to the issues. They are talking about memories of the dreaded "flood of 86" which was pretty bad.

In theory it should not impact me directly. I'm between two major rivers. But about 5 miles from one effected.

Water has gone down a lot and some of the roads that had been closed are starting to reopen. I think they said the one lake had about 22 billion gallons of water in it. No loss of life at all from this event. Which is rather impressive.

What will be next is the legal tangle this event caused. Lot of residents effected are more than a little irked. With questions as to who was in charge of the dams and why was nothing done to fix the known problems. Worse part is many of them in MI are not in good shape due to age and lack of proper up keep. Midland County was on top of things and prevented loss of life. But the next time we may not be so lucky.
