This is the completed star chart of the Algo Solar System, as of the visit to Rykros late in Phantasy Star IV. It shows the full system and the orbital paths of everything in the system. Note that Zelan and Kuran each share an orbital path with one of the planets. Palma's orbit, shown by the asteroid belt, Also seems to be on the same angle as that of Rykros. Given that Rykros passes between Palma and Motavia, it's a bit of a surprise that someone didn't run into Rykros in PSI. The orbits given here for Motavia and Palma also contradicts later statements that the two planets pass each other in their orbits.

Yeah, that later Sega explanation that Mota and Palma didn't switched orbits after all, it's hard to fit here. Look:
These are the orbits from PSI manual. It looks like the problem is more than the eliptical orbit of Motabia. In PSIV Parma was the one with the elliptical orbit. (They really switched).
The only explanation for this "mess" is the explosion of Parma or simply a Retcon in PSI story.

Hm, comparing the two, it looks like Motavia and Palma did more than just switch places in each other's orbits. The angle on the elliptical orbit is different, too. It's more vertical in the PSIV chart. I suppose that could just be different artist interpretation. One thing's for sure - Sega definitely created a headache when they moved Mota in PSII.
Very interesting Star Chart ! It can explain many things about the planets and the orbits ! It was so true to say that "Sega definitely created a headache when they moved Mota in PSII" ! (Thoul)
