Anyone ever seen a real live, or dead, octopus?

I think the only octopi I've seen have been on TV. Although maybe there was one in an aquarium I visited once. I'd think so, but I don't recall. I've heard of some having venom before, but all of them...? That's a new one on me.

That’s one of the dangerous things about coming to Australian beaches. Don't fear sharks or crocodiles trust me they stay away from people (most times :p ) Its the jellyfish and the very small blue-ringed octopus that make swimming in the sea water dangerous. The Blue ringed-octopus when it bites you with its beak-like mouth injects a numbing poison so it doesn’t feel like you’ve been bitten at all and until it bites you wont know its a blue-ring because they only turn white and blue when the are in defence mode and you very unlikely to feel the bite also you will only have a very limited amount of time to reach of hospital most people don't notice they have been bitten until its too late. Another thing that makes the ocean very dangerous. :blank:

I've eaten small ones before though. Maybe it's a slow acting poison and it'll kill me when I'm in my forties. :p

Caged Wolf, I am curious, just what does octopus taste like? I don't think I would ever try eating one, but you never know.

I seem to remember it tasting somewhat like fish. I can't be totally sure, because the ones I ate were just one ingredient in stir-fry at a Chinese restaurant, so it was mixed with a lot of other things.

Octopus doesn't taste all that great trust me. Actually it really has no taste its kinda rubbery if that helps any one interested in what one would taste like. Definitley not one of my favourite sea foods. :blank:

Octopi scare the living daylights out of me. Them and large squids. I didn't know that they were poisonous--just one more reason to avoid them. :D

That's why you do with them what you do with tofu and a lot of mushrooms...soak it in all kinds of herbs, spices and sauces. They seem to be sponges for that kind of stuff!
