PSU Xbox Online ending soon

Postby Thoul » Sat Jun 5, '10, 5:34 pm

Sega is going to drop online support for the Xbox 360 version of PS Universe later this month, on June 21. Unfortunately they're not giving a period of free online play as with past closures. In this case, Sega is still going to support the PSU expansion, just not the original game. If anyone is still playing the original, enjoy it while you can.

It appears that Sega seems to be going out of the online business.. I mean you can't blame them cause Phantasy Star Universe is a great game in itself, most new gamers to the series don't know about it cause its not really advertised, as well as for those of us who grew up on the original series are fond of the first 4 so the move to online was a great experience but it just wasn't the same feel.

I see, so they're dropping support of the stand alone games online functionality because of incredible amount of changes being made to the online portion of the Ambition of the Illuminus pay to play DLC Expansion. In other words, they couldn't/wouldn't work out a away to make the PSU servers differentiate between a "V1" and a "V2" player.

That's pretty much exactly the situation, Tweeg. I guess past experience with PS Online or PSU must be leading Sega to believe that the V1 players will be very few in number. It probably doesn't hurt that this will get a few hold outs to finally buy Ambition.

They certainly seem to be cutting back on individual online games. PS Portable 2 is supposed to have an online component though, so they aren't dropping it entirely.
