Movies opening on Christmas day

Postby Thoul » Wed Dec 5, '07, 5:02 am

Over the past few years, I've noticed that more and more movies have been opening in theaters on Christmas Day. What do you think of this trend? Have you ever gone to see a movie on December 25th, or would you?

Personally I would not go see a movie on that day. Traditionally this is a day to spend with family and friends, celebrating the past year. I would rather keep Christmas day reserved for that.

I guess for people who don't celebrate christmas, but I would never, we have to big of a christmas. A giant breakfast then presents then playing with gifts or whatever you do then talking with everyone, then lunch then more fun, then set up, then party then dinner, then dessert, then more fun, then everyone leaves, then you talk about the day, then bed.
Everything has a pattern. Something set. Even random things. They aren't random at all, its complex mathematics. The trick is to find the pattern. Then you can exploit it.

People think things have a certain end. Taxes. Work. Due dates don't really exist. Trust me. When you put a band of world scholars in the same room, and set them on talking about anything, the most interesting topics come up. The existence of negative time. The probability of "random occurrence". The government's involvement in the media. And falsified due dates. They aren't real, trust me....

Nope, I would not go see a movie on Christmas Day. Who has the time? I mean, after waking up at the crack of dawn to open presents and then enjoying them a little bit, then getting ready for Christmas Dinner, then enjoying the new presents some more, then taking a little nap or going to bed early, there just isn't time in the day to go out and about (usually in freezing cold weather) to watch a movie! Nah, the movie can wait til another day.

I am actually quite surprised that more movies seem to be opening on Christmas Day. I mean, is there really that big of an audience on a day that many people are spending with friends and family?

Yeah, I'd rather play with whatever new "toys" I've gotten Christmas morning or spend the day with family. Opening on Christmas day is just a marketing gimmick, I'll wait until the weekend to see a movie like I do the rest of the year.

The theater is usually really empty on major holidays though, so that's a great time to go see a movie in an uncrowded theater.

I'd probably never have time to go see a movie on Christmas since I'm always really busy.

Aliens vs. Predator Requiem comes out on Christmas day, but I really don't like going to the movies. I'll get it on DVD and rip it.

The AvP sequel is already coming out? Wow, I really lost track of that one. I haven't even seen any ads for it.
