Even though I already had the SEGA collection for the PSP, I bought the Sonic collection for the PS3, mostly to be able to play Phantasy Star. The PS3 is at my boyfriend's house, so I only play during some weekends.

Even so, I have reached the part of the game where I can visit Motavia and Dezolis.

Here is my first fan art for this game. I love how the game's graphics look, so I tried my best with this pic. I also want to bring some feelings of nostalgia when people see it.

This is amazing on so many levels. First thing that struck me: they all look like actors. Odin look lime a Rocky 4 era version of Dolph Lundgren. Noah looks like a young Mel Gibson with blue hair and Alis.. uh.. I can't quite put a name on her but she reminds me of a teen actress as well. The 80's feel is extremely well done. Heck, even Myau looks like a critter from a 80's kid movie.

The only thing that annoys me is Odin's lips: they are way too dark for his skin complexion.

Good work.

I rest my case.

Thanks for the comments, Aero.

See this post in the "Revamping the PS Dream Casts" thread to see who's who.

The only one not specified there is Myaw. (S?)he is doing the Snarf pose from the intro of Thundercats.

As for Dolph's lips in the drawing, yes, they may be too dark. But I assure you, he knows how to use them.

I am glad I managed to get an 80s feeling.

Tom Cruise. I stand corrected.

And that is Jennifer Connelly, AKA the most gorgeous and beautiful girl to haunt my pre-teen dreams. I am ashamed I did not recognize her.

And Snarf.

Dude, you rock. I love you so much right now.

Edit: I guess I missed the PS dream cast thread. Anyways.

Wow, I had to smile reading these past few posts and appreciating the artwork. I absolutely love Snarf and although I did not like the Drago character from the Rocky movie I do like Dolph Lundgreen in almost everything he does. He was in the first He-Man movie ya know. Fantastic the way you have captured these real people into the Phantasy Star characters!!

I was 5 when Labyrinth came out. It is one of my favorite movies since then. My brother was 8 then. I had not realized it, but he recently told me he has liked Jennifer Connelly since those times.

I have to agree she is (still is, really) very beautiful. And she seems like a cool person, as well. I simply have to keep thinking she would have been great for Phantasy Star.

SS, thanks for the comments! This obviously started with all the Dolph Lundgren = Tylon/Odin talk. Then I thought about Jennifer Connelly and I knew I had to do this.

BTW, the characters and actors themselves helped in getting "captured". I think they could get the essence right. I just had to find pics that fit from around that time (and notice how none of Tom Cruise's Legend pics was looking at the right direction, but it fit, for Lutz, I think). I DID trace the general outlay of their faces and poses, mainly to get the right proportions and positions of things like eyes, noses and hair, but then I did all the details freehand style, so I don't feel (too) bad about that :melodramatic:

And I am happy to see people liked Snarf! (Usually, people always say they hate him, hahahaha.)

I was thinking too hard about what to do with Myaw. A mogwai? A Muppet? Salem? No, Salem (as a puppet) came later... Then I was thinking "cat" and "80s" and it hit me. It should have been the first option, really.

Edit:

About the actors getting the essence, in Labyrinth, Sarah starts as a very selfish and childish girl, but grows up to become someone who cares about others and stops blaming everyone else for the consequences of her actions. In PS, Alicer starts her journey motivated not to free her people, but to avenge her brother's death. I do not know if she learned anything, but she ended up saving a lot of people with her actions.

Thank you!

Tom Cruise was the last one of the non-Snarf characters to cast. I was first thinking about Lutz's androgynous look, but I could not find the right actor. I thought of Boy George, but his face is totally a woman's (with make up and all), so it was a little extreme.

Then I started changed the parameters to "pretty boys", and the selection was made quickly after that. Even though Mr. Cruise is quite a few centimeters shorter than Lutz. :melodramatic:

I am happy with the selection.

Thank you. Not only do I think they would be a good cast, I also suspect at least one, if not two, of them may have also been inspirations.

Dolph is the most obvious one, but perhaps Jennifer served as the base for a 15 year old heroine.
