Items...it seems serious competitive players hate them. They turn them off. All of them. Period.

Stages random is okay. It seems many tournaments do have their own rules so a lot of what I'm saying is a bit general from my own experiences and smashboards lurking.

The following is a true story from a gamer's night.

I was playing Brawl. Match had just finished up. A guy sits down next to me, says he wants to play a match with me. Items are on low, a few turned off, which is my general setting. There are a few items I don't like, but most I have one.

Match beings...smash ball appears, the guy says 'what's that thing?'

He was a veteran player, he did tell me. Didn't know what the smash ball was.

Match ends, he goes into the menu settings and turns all items off.

No, I honeslty don't MIND playing without items sometimes. But not knowing what a smash ball is when you're a veteran player?
