I just found this article about the classic "Super Mario Brothers" movie and the actor who starred in the movie who now hates having done the movie and basically says it is one of the biggest regrets of his career, etc.

http://blog.games.yahoo.com/blog/780-bo ... -bros-film

It was really sad to read this article. I mean, the movie may not have been something like Oscar winning material, or something along those lines, but still it was, and probably still is, a cult movie favorite of many video game fans, etc.

It's always sad also to hear someone say years later that something they did was one of the biggest regrets. It makes you wonder why they agreed to do it in the first place. Did they not have any questions or doubts about doing it at the time they were doing it???

It will be interesting to see how other video game fans feel about this article and comments made by this actor.

Comments or Opinions anyone??

You can't please everyone with every film. Just like any other, there are those who enjoy this movie and those who don't. From the article, I get the impression that it was not a good working environment, so perhaps the actor's reasons for regretting it are not tied to the quality of the film so much as his personal experiences with it.

I first seen this movie when I was eleven years old. At the time I thought it was the greatest thing I'd ever watched. I purchased the DVD a few years back and now having watched it again being older I really think it was quite a terrible game to movie transition.

Besides the characters names it really has nothing to do with any of the Mario games. Bowser being a human for the entire film was also a huge let down. Don’t get me started on the huge-green-frog-headed-people-things they called Goombas  . This is all just my opinion however.

Bumping this up to report that actor Bob Hoskins has died. I heard on the news this morning that he had passed away due to pneumonia, I think it was. He was 71 years young. He had retired from acting a few years ago after announcing he had Parkinson's disease. Condolences to his family. May he R.I.P. And, no matter how he felt about his role in the "Super Mario Brothers" film, many Super Mario fans will long remember and appreciate his work as their hero, Mario. Thank you Mr. Hoskins for the "Super Mario" film and all your other body of acting work. :tombstone: :rose:

And, here is a link with some very interesting facts and information on the film:

I was very happy to read that Hoskin's son was a fan of the "Super Mario" film, etc.

Yes I've heard about this very sad news... RIP dear actor :tombstone: :rose:
And about the Super Mario film, I can understand his point of view : as Super Mario the movie isn't very good (to be polite) but without references to Mario, it's not too bad :)

I never saw the Super Mario Bros. movie and I didn't even know that he was in it, but I do remember him from Who Framed Roger Rabbit. That was actually a pretty cool movie for it's time.
