Canada's plastic money

Postby Silver_Surfer1 » Wed Mar 28, '12, 1:45 am

Canada now has a new plastic $50 dollar bill and a plastic $100 dollar bill:

http://news.yahoo.com/plastic-50-bill-n ... 17969.html

What do all you Canadians think of this new plastic money?

It will be interesting to see how this new plastic money does in place of the previous currency (which I assume was paper money...is that correct?)

And, it will be interesting to see if this new idea does well in Canada and whether other places may decide to switch to using plastic money also?

I wonder if the plastic money will be accepted only in Canada, or if other places that don't have the plastic money yet will also accept it???

S'funny, I was just thinking the other day that the US ought to switch to plastic for their coins. It would allow the metals currently used in them to be diverted to more necessary resources, while making use of recycled plastic in the currency. I didn't consider using it for bills, but that's a neat idea. I wonder how the plastic bills compare to paper ones in terms of thickness and folding.

In Australia we have plastic notes for our money, we have $5, $10, $20, $50 and $100 notes all made out of plastic. It’s actually paper thin and it’s quite hard to tear or crease.

Lucas, I had no idea that Australia had plastic money also. Maybe this is a trend of the future then, perhaps even for the USA sometime in the future. An interesting thought and possibility for sure.

The plastic money is actually pretty cool. Like Lucas said, it's really hard to tear or crease, it's actually seems pretty thin and it likes to stick to each other because of how new they are. We don't only have $100 and $50 bills, but $20 as well now. I actually like these new bills because they make my wallet thinner with more cash.

ATLIN : all the advantages you point out about them seems to be really interesting !
The fact that non plastic money can be torn apart easily is something you can counter with this plastic money ! And that is great.

When you use the money, (when the monew is new), its stick to each other... For example, I want to pay with a 20$, but with the new money, by error, i can pay with two 20$ without i knew it... I don't know if you understand but thats my principal reason...

And normally, I don't like change in general so... x)
