Summer Solstice ... Officially, the first day of the Summer season, though not an official holiday, still celebrated by many who are happy to see summertime finally arrive. This is the longest day of the year.

So, that means the days are going to start getting shorter again? Blah. I was just getting used to it being really bright at 9 pm. It's felt like summer for about a month now though, so I think the official starting date of the season needs to be moved up a few weeks.

Today was the offical first day of summer of 2011.

It certainly felt like summer too....our temps were in the very high 90's. A threat of a summer storm was present but never actually came to pass.

All in all a good day. Happy summer to all that are experiencing this season now. :sun:

I still think the date needs to be moved back some. We've had 100+ temperatures for a couple of weeks here now.

Today (June 20, 2012) is once again the first day of Summer in the USA.
Happy Summer all you in the USA! :sunny:

However, for those not in the USA, today probably also marks the beginning of another yearly season for you as well, probably either Winter or Fall. Whichever season is is where you are living, remember to enjoy the day. There will never be another day quite like today.

Also, I just have to ask everyone's opinion about what you all think about this Mayan Calendar stuff talked about in this above article and almost everywhere else online these days. Does anyone really think the end of the world is coming according to this calendar stuff? I want to know what you think of this.

I don't believe any of these doomsday predictions. There have been many that have come and gone already, but the world is still here. Remember the Y2K scare? Nothing came of that at all, and that's only one of several examples. Maybe the world will end or be drastically changed from some unexpected event in the future, but I put no stock in predictions of catastrophes like the legend of the Mayan calendar.

Yes, shorter days are coming, unfortunately... :( And first day of summer ? Not today as I look at the sky and see all the clouds and loud rain :(

Southeastern humidity makes Summer awful every year (you can usually tack on an extra 7-10 degrees F past what the weather predictions say). But I know people who like it, so meh.
