Yeah, Nimoy's presence really helped to cement the film as part of the pre-existing Star Trek sagas and not a complete, total reboot. It gives the writers and producers the option of continuing with the new universe, revisiting the old, or even having more crossovers between the two.

Thought I would bump this topic up with two recent news bits related to Star Trek.

First, actor Leonard Nimoy ("Spock") has announced his retirement from acting. There is a seperate thread related to this in this Screen Scene section also. You will find a link to more on this story there.

Second, actor Michael Pataki, age 72, has died. He was in many movies and tv programs. He played the role of a Klingon on "Star Trek" in the episode "The Trouble With Tribbles" and some others.

Condolences to his family. :tombstone:

Aw, that guy was my favorite Klingon from the old series. They should have had him come back for one of the movies.

More "Star Trek" news.

There is going to be an auction on June 27, at Planet Hollywood Resort And Casino in Las Vegas, with various "Star Trek" mementos, including scripts, costumes, and other goodies up for sale, and actor William Shatner (aka Captain Kirk) has donated his motorcycle:

Wow, I'll bet there will be a lot of "Star Trek" fans awaiting this auction. :hyper:

Hm, it's funny, I could have sworn he'd been knighted already. I guess they just announced it before and made it official now or something. Anyway, it's a great recognition of his achievements in film.

The wonderful thing about Patrick Stewart is, the man can read a phone book and you'd listen just because of THAT VOICE. Just listen and be in awe.

Fun fact: Three emotes from Star Trek Online poke fun at Captain Picard: /engage, /facepalm, and /tug.

Nakama: A Card Game of Magical Girls - A completely un-playtested card game about being a magical girl.

Well, excuse me while I defy all laws of logic and common sense and do it anyway.

Saw this last night and got a few laughs off of it, although it is a very serious issue. It's just that "Star Trek" is everywhere and seems to be as popular as ever even after 40 something years, lol.

"Star Trek" is helping to promote Social Security now in some commercials it seems, with a little help from actor George Takei (Zulu in "Star Trek") and actress Patty Duke ("The Patty Duke Show"). It's hard to believe he is now 73 years young and she is now 64.

Oh, and if I remember correctly, she is the mother of actor Sean Astin who played the role of "Sam" in "Lord Of The Rings".
