 Post subject: Site Access Problems
PostPosted: Sat Dec 13, '08, 9:15 pm
Some people have reported problems with accessing the site. This is due to a change in the site configuration a few weeks ago. I changed the name of cookies used by the message boards; the old cookies remain on people's computers and that causes the problem.

If you encounter this error, you will see a message similar to the following when you try to access the site:
Quote:404 error: You sent a message that this computer could not understand. Cookie length {a long piece of text here that contains "psalsobb" somewhere}

To fix this, you need to delete the old cookies. Steps to do this are below. After completing these steps, you'll be able to access the site again (but you might have to log in again if you were already logged in).

If you have not encountered this error yet, I recommend doing these steps anyway to prevent it from happening to you in the future.

If you're using Firefox:
  • Click Tools in the menu, click Options under that.
  • A window will pop up. Click "Privacy" at the top of that window.
  • Click the "Show Cookies" button. Another window will pop up.
  • At the top of this window, the Search box, type psalsobb. This should bring up a list of items.
  • Select those items and click the Remove Cookie (or Remove Cookies) button at the bottom of the window.

If you're using Internet Explorer:
  • Click Tools in the menu and Internet Options under that.
  • Click the "General" tab at the top of the window that appears.
  • Click the "Delete..." button under "Browsing history."
  • Click the "Delete cookies..." button in the window that appears.
  • Click "Yes" in the next window, then close the previous windows with the "Close" and "Ok" buttons.

To follow up on this, I've added a snippet of code to the website that should delete these older cookies automatically. That will help prevent the problem from occurring for most people, though it won't help anyone already hit by the error.
