New "Ghost in the Shell" anime series announced!

Postby Lucas » Tue Jan 22, '13, 6:06 am

A new Ghost in the Shell anime series called “Arise Ghost in the Shell” has been announced and is receiving a Japanese release this year.

I was a pretty big fan of the first movie and the very first TV series. It’ll be interesting to see how this one goes.

Hm. I never saw the movies, but the TV series was pretty good. It'll be interesting to see how this develops, if it's connection to previous installments or is a standalone thing. With a name like Arise, I wonder if it's an origin story.

I've never been a fan of Ghost in the Shell and all the works of Shirow Masamune but why not try to look at it ? :)

Further Details and an official trailer were debuted yesterday in Japan.
http://kotaku.com/ghost-in-the-shell/

Ghost in the Shell: Arise is a four part theatrical release OVA. Each episode has a fifty minute runtime and a Blu-Ray of episode one will be available to purchase at the theatrical debut on June 22nd, whilst general sale of the DVD and Blu-Ray will not begin untl the following month on July 26th .

Arise is a prequel to the Stand Alone Complex series, taking place, from the looks of things, at least ten years prior to the latter. No official word on weather or not Yoko is involved with the soundtrack this go around, but it at least sounds like she could be from the background music in the trailer. :)
