Stuck in Phantasy Star Generation 1

Hello all!
As you can probably can tell, this is gonna be about PSG1 ^^' Well anyways, since I cannot read Japanese (I can only read a little bit of Katakana and Hiragana) this game has been a real hassle to go through (especially the part to get the Roadpass >_>) but anyways! I am stuck at Abion where you cannot buy anything from the shops (only the Hospital is open) and I have talked to every one in every town in Palma (or Parma if you prefer) I even went to Motavia, but for some reason I cannot enter the manhole that leads to Dr. Mad's house, I only get Myau saying something about the manhole leading somewhere (and I still cannot enter it he only repeats it). So has anyone else got this problem, or is it just me? Thanks in advanced! ^_^

When in doubt use the most useful method possible. Talk to each npc like 4 times in a row, eventually something will happen.

I tried that already, with no luck. >_< If only PSG1 was made without all the backtracking.

It's been ages since I played the game, but I recall that in some cases, you have to use the chat command to trigger new NPC interactions. So I would recommend using chat once or twice to see if the party has anything new to say, then talk to everyone in the local area again, then try the manhole.
