Supermoon & Solar Eclipse

Postby Silver_Surfer1 » Fri May 4, '12, 2:35 am

For you watchers of the sky and star gazers this month of May 2012 should prove to be very exciting.

First, coming up this weekend on Saturday May 5th, there will be a supermoon! This will be the biggest moon of this year of 2012.

Next, coming up later this month around May 20 there will be a solar eclipse!

Enjoy these two amazing occurrences if you are able to do so! :)

Thanks for the lin,ks because I love to watch the sky : but the late month was so cloudy and rainy that I hope the sky will be clearer through the end of may... ^^

So this supermoon thing is tonight? I'll have to try to remember to look for it.

I'm unclear on where that solar eclipse will be visible from. At one point the article suggests it's the western US, then later the entire US, and then the western US again. Confusing! :grumpy:

With a meteor shower as well, it seems like this will be an eventual month.

Saturday or sunday night ? With the time difference, it's a bit confusing ! I've just watched a french article on "la super pleine lune" and apparently it's this night on sunday ! I'll have a look if the weather permits it...
EDIT : oups I've read to quickly : it was last night, this morning very early to be more precise so fail...:( :x

Well, I didn't exactly see the supermoon. Was tired and so I went to bed a bit earlier than I usually do last night. I did look out the window but didn't see the moon, however, it was very very bright outside every where. I kinda like that. I don't like the dark much.

Here's some pics of the supermoon that I found online:

I got to see it wandering around a bit in Worcester after Sabaton. It was definitely very lovely, especially with light cloud cover.

I was able to see a little of the supermoon, but it didn't seem very big from where I was able to view. Bigger than usual, yes, but not by much. I think I must have caught it before the optimum point.
