Rika Artwork

Postby Xander » Sun Apr 17, '11, 9:54 pm

Ok, so...9 months down the line. What have we got this time?

I decided I needed something easy to do between my last big project and my next one. With thanks to H-Man for the suggestion to draw Rika. I drew this one up in about 2 hours. I know the face is a bit rounded, but front view is something I don't do as often as I ought.

This particular piece was quite experimental for me. Truth be told, that was the main intention. I tested and used new skin colours, added some subtle-ish shading to the face and tried drawing the hair a little differently as well as testing out digital inking too. Oh yeah, the background was also all my own work too. Never tried it before. ^^

Anyway, enjoy

This is great, I'm really amazed at the eyes. You'll have to show me how you do em. The picture goes great with the background, the one thing I wanna point out is the tongue. It seems like the shade in her mouth should be a bit smaller, that way it looks like her tongue isn't going to the side. Otherwise Xander great piece.

Bleh. My bad. Something about the mouth highlight didn't sit right when I did it. had I gone back and looked at some of my older CG art I would have seen that shading that area would have been better instead of highlighting.

Thus, I have fixed it and re-uploaded it here. I've also gone and added some extra shading to the whites of the eyes, since they're never truly white. Also I'm taking a few days before I think about starting my next project, so I'll see about whipping up a quick tutorial on how to do the eyes, Kaloes.

Nice picture. The eyes are really impressive. The shades on the skin and the light on the armour are very neat too.

And the tutorial is done. Took a lot less time than I thought it might. ^^

Nice work! Her skin and the background look really good; though I liked your other Rika pictures, this one shows a lot of improvement.

I agree with Kaloes about her mouth and it seems like the lines on one of her ears isn't as clear as the others. I'm sure there are more accurate, technical terms for that, but we all know how much I know about creating artwork...

Hard to agree on something that was fixed ages ago. I fixed the mouth already. ;)

As for the ear, it looks fine when I open it up in the editor. Blame resizing it for what's going on there. :p If not that, it's probably something to do with inking in one program and transferring to another for colouring that puts the quality down. But as of today that'll not happen again.

HOLY SNAP! I look away for one moment and you become an excellent artist Xander. How dare you! =P

Looks pretty epic mate, had I stuck to drawing (though I have been drawing almost everyday this month) and coloured, I could have been as good as you. Well, pretty sweet stuff mate, especially when I compare it to your first Rika art.

Aside from a few pixelated looking parts (being a bit on the hair and the left (Rika's Right) ear, which was probably caused by resizing, it looks great.

Also the background is epic.
