Very beautiful and moving story. You've paid a wonderful homage to your late friend. Knowing the full story makes it even better.

Good story. Indeed, it seems to explore a fear of becoming that you hate, and how even what appears to be truly horrible may not be as it seems. I spotted a couple minor grammar issues, but nothing that detracts from the message.

Interesting story. For a minute I wondered if this might turn out to be a "Beauty & The Beast" type of story, or something along those lines. I don't know if there are any plans to continue this story, or not, but it certainly would be interesting to see what happens to him on his journey(s) and to find out whether he can find a way to reverse his current situation, and also what might become of his newfound friendship.. The ending was very hopeful and leaves the reader with a good feeling.
