Beautiful story tilinelson2. Powerful and sad in the beginning as she decides her fate and then changes her mind and an uplifting ending.

Thanks, SS1. In fact, the story is a bit drenched with symbolism, and (spoiler about the symbols. I recommend those who didn't read the story to not read this part before) her decision was not much of a choice, for she is not very popular in the less popular game of the series. Unlike the purple-haired girl (Nei), the brunette who shares the same fate (Alys) or the girl who looks like the first (Rika), she is hardly a fan favorite. She is even overshadowed in her own game by Mieu and 3rd gen characters, so not even her creator (Ozaki) cares about her (her latest PSIII works are never about her). So, she was fated to eventually be forgotten and drown in the ocean of forgotten things (the candles being people who still remember, gradually forgetting).

However, there is a crazy man somewhere (you know who :p) who is completely in love with her and will carry her in his heart through eternity (she is not only his favorite character, but the personification of love. She looks different in the end because that man always sought to "find his Maia", and Maia blends with the woman he loves). Ultimately, her spiral grows towards the infinite because Maia became more than a character, but love itself.
A person only sees and hears what he wants to see and hear and disregards the rest.

lol, on the crazy guy. Actually, I think he's quite sane and madly in love which is wonderful! Enjoyed reading your response above.
