Post subject: Radio Shack changes name
PostPosted: Thu Aug 6, '09, 10:37 pm
I read that the store "Radio Shack" was changing it's name to simply " The Shack ".

What do you think of stores changing their names, especially after they have been known for many years by a well-known name?

Sometimes it's confusing, I think.

Remember when Kentucky Fried Chicken changed to just KFC. That's a little easier to remember because it is still just the initials of the other name.

Can anyone think of any other stores that have changed their names over the years?

Kay Bee Toy - KB Toys (Out of business now I think.)
Wal-Mart - Wal*Mart
Doc Holiday's Pawn & Loan - Cash America
Revco - CVS

"The Shack" is not a very good name for this store in my opinion. It just seems too plain and doesn't convey any sense of what the store is about. Dropping "Radio" in the name is understandable, I guess. It's a dated reference and barely applicable to their inventory these days. If they really need a name change, I just think they could do better.

Yup, sadly they went out last year. I remember that I always looked forward to going there when I was young. Back then, it was a great place to get video games. I even bought my second NES at a Kay Bee. Good times, good times.

I agree Thoul. I saw the new commercial with the name and it just seemed really stupid. It was like someone tried too hard to be "cool" with it. The Shack sounds more like the tatoo place in my town rather than an electronics store.
