Hm... I love to annoy people with my cooking. When I step into the kitchen, strange and sometimes wonderful things happen.
Tonight I had a simple hamburger because I didn't feel like cooking for me but I have prepared in advance two meals, one for tomorrow and one for Friday. On those two evenings, I will have friends over so I prepared good stuff.
Wednesday friends: My sweet maple ham. I put half a shoulder of uncooked ham in the crock pot along with 4 unpeeled apples cut in 4 quarters. Add maple syrup, brown sugar, apple juice and a tad of olive oil. Add a little more water than apple juice. Plug the pot, let the ham there to ponder it's delicious fate for 8 hours. This will be accompanied by sliced, unpeeled potatoes that I will oven-cook in a tin foil with some butter and rosemary. A small side dish of sliced fresh mushrooms lightly stir-fried in olive oil and garlic, and maybe a roasted onion on the side, for kicks.
Friday friends: Orange beef and Greek salad. In a tight glass container, I put two pounds of cubed beef to marinade in the following: some olive oil, three cloves of garlic, a finger of grated fresh ginger, a bit of honey, the zest of an orange and some fresh basil leaves. Friday, I will remove it from the container and put it in the crock pot with an orange juice/water mix and cook it for 8 hours. Serve this on jasmine rice. For the Greek salad, I cook small pasta in a water/vegetable broth mix. Cool them and add diced tomatoes, chopped celery, green onions, cubed cucumber, feta cheese, black and green olive slices, garlic and spice to taste. The theme for Friday's evening: Happy tummy, bad breath.
All my friends have to do is bring the wine and their appetite.
Yes, I am a shameless, shameless brag.
Bon apétit.
