Has anyone tried playing this new game called Pokémon Go? I have been reading a lot about it recently and it sounds kind of fun, but I don't know. It seems to be a hit for Nintendo.

I downloaded it and so did my boyfriend and our housemates. It's still having a lot of server overload issues, and it took over a day for me to be able to do anything. Still getting kicked out sometimes, but it seems to be stabilizing some. I haven't played it enough to really have too much of an opinion on it, but so far it seems alright. I think it needs more social/peer-to-peer functions soon to keep it going (why can you not trade Pokemon with other users?), or else it's going to fall off the radar after the novelty dies the way Miitomo did earlier this year.

Edit: Looks like it's blown up on social networks that on iOS, if you sign into Pokemon Go with your Google account, which I bet many users did, myself included, the app/Niantic has full access to the Google account. Not cool, guys. That is a HUGE privacy problem and could be a hacker's paradise, especially now that it's gotten out there. Guess who just revoked access. Fix it, Niantic. Now. No excuse for that.

Edit 2: Well, at least they were quick on the turnaround and both Niantic and Google are working on a fix, as that level of access was never intended. I bet Google can just flip a switch on the back end to lower its access permissions, but that will be invisible to most users. Niantic should probably issue an update to the app that fixes the permissions it requests. I may sign back in just to see if Google did a back end fix. I'll feel okay (if ever diligent on my google account) playing it again when I don't see it listed as having full access on my Google security settings.

Well, nice turnaround, guys, I'll give credit when it's due. Earlier, when I did log into PokeGo to see if Google made back-end changes, nope, nothing. Still had full Google Account access, so I revoked it and got logged out. But sometime between then and now, Niantic released an update to the iOS app store with a few bug fixes, but also a fix to the Google access thing. So I could sign in, it disclosed what account access it had, and I just checked my Google security page, and indeed, it now only has "Basic account info," which is what most apps that do sign-in through Google have.

Good job, guys. I'm still going to keep an eye on my Google account, but you deserve credit for taking only a day to address a major issue.

My phone doesn't support Pokemon Go. I think I'll have to support Team Mystic in spirit ;_;

I went team yellow/instinct, mostly because one of housemates got to level 5 before and that's the team he chose. Might as well help out my housemates and we have a gym down the street.

:rofl:

Granted, I have no idea where this bad reputation for Team Valor came from.

Simple: Team Mystic hates Teams Valor and Instinct; Team Valor hates Teams Mystic and Instinct, and Team Instinct hates Teams Mystic and Valor. =p

I guess I just don't take PokeGo as seriously as much of the rest of the internet. Muahahaha, does that make me a rebel?

However, my housemate is very into it and I had to remind him that yes, I walk past 2 gyms on my way to the bus, no, I will not prioritize PokeGoing at them over catching my bus.

It seems that this game that was such a hit when it first came out has fizzled a bit so I read they may try and add some new characters to it to see if that might help in some way.

Does anyone here still play this game, and do you think new characters will help?
