According to the article below, it may be called Ps4 or another name, but right now plans are for the new system to be released in late 2013:

I’m not too keen about the idea of restricting games to a single user account and thus making second hand games almost unplayable to the new game owner. Anything could change between now and then however so I guess we will see.

Blame Apple for this strategy of disallowing used games by associating them with the account.

Anyway, the consoles mean nothing. I'm interested on the games, so I'll certainly wait a while before considering any of the newer consoles (including 3DS and Vita)

I agree with tili. I read a BBC article and there won't be backwards compatibility either, along with the restriction to user account. That said, as Lucas already said, anything can change between now and then.

I'm not thrilled about this anti-used game stuff either. I expect those plans will change in some way between now and release, so I'll wait to see how that goes. The games, of course, are a big point also. I may just get a PS3 instead, once the price drops down lower. There are still a lot of games for it that I'd like to play, even though I don't have the system yet.

Add me to the list of not-thrilled about limiting used games. That's a terrible strategy. Part of the fun of video games is the social aspect. Sharing games is word-of-mouth advertising. Who remembers borrowing and trading game cartridges with your friends? You know why it's good for the game companies? Because they'll sell more consoles.

As the big gaming companies try to compete with the micro companies in the social gaming/app market, I think they're at a loss about where to go next. I don't think making games less accessible is the answer.

Can't say I'm thrilled about the next gen of consoles at this point.

Well, it looks like the new Playstation is here or almost here anyway. They are calling it Playstation 4 and it may be available for purchase sometime around the holiday period of this year of 2013. Read more about this new gaming system here:
