Phantasy Star: Official Production Compendium: Fiend Sketch

Design sketches for many characters appear in Phantasy Star - Official Production Compendium. This is an example of the multitude of enemy designs featured in the book. Coming from page 50, this enlarged section displays a member of the Fiend family of enemies. First appearing in Phantasy Star II as Fiends, Wizards, and Caped Ones, they returned with different names for Phantasy Star III. This enemy group was also present in Phantasy Star IV as bosses with dialogue, revealing that they were intentionally serving the will of Dark Force all along.

Maybe I'm stretching this a little, but they could also have appeared in PSI as Evildead, Wight and Lich.




At least, they don't have legs, only arms under a robe.

Hey, that's pretty cool, I never noticed that before. Same color scheme and everything! Even the eyes seem to match!

I hadn't thought of that one either, but they are pretty similar. The Evildead family looks like a prototype version of the Fiends when they're placed side by side. That would be a great connection to run through all three games, to show that Dark Force was always using these evil ghosts as minions. Nice catch, newsblade!
