The Wai Xing Zhan Shi interpretation of Alys' young partner is not a very good one. He is incredibly weak against monsters at the beginning of the game. With just a knife and a helmet, he won't last long unless you level up and buy a sword. Leveling some more once you get Rune is a good idea, too.

Yep, this one is really bad. He has no pupils, his eyes are just solid black soulless orbs that want to suck you in.

"Pirate" is a very appropriate term since it looks like he's wearing an eye patch. Not terrible for an NES game though.
