Phantasy Star IV: Seed's Choice

Due to the manipulations of the black magician known as Zio, the Bio-plant hidden in the caverns of Birth Valley became a threat to all of Motavia. Zio's meddling with the ancient facility caused to spew forth a plague of biomonsters on the struggling populace of the desert world. Seed, the artificial intelligence that once controlled the complex, knows that it has become the opposite of the original intended purpose - making life more bearable in the declining environment. To put an end to this threat, he decides there is only one course - Seed's own self destruct mechanisms. Once they are activated, we see this scene. The explosions are so powerful that the mountain hiding the complex is completely destroyed.

...and yet, the biomonsters were still there for the rest of the game. I always felt kind of bad, because as I looked at it, Seed's sacrifice was in vain. At least he sent Rika into the world.

That looks like quite an explosion!!

Seed's choice was a tough one but maybe it was the only avaiable finally...sad for Fal/Rika but maybe it's for the better !
