Hello, dearest community.
I am Alaster :)

I have been building a Phantasy Star IV remake in RPG Maker VX Ace and would like to keep it updated here as I move on.

I started the project because I always wanted to make a game, I always wanted to touch PS4 and I always wanted to make something big and complete in the aforementioned platform. I chose RPG Maker since, despite or because of its limitations, it closely resembles PS4's engine. Also, it is widely used and others may easily add upon it later, it is succeeded by a better Maker so it is kinda "oldie" and I am hoping that no one will get mad upon copyright infringement and stuff.

The goal is to make a copy as close as possible to the original game and after that, to modify, enhance and expand the game with more ( and lots more as I have in mind 8) ) quite possibly to the new RPG Maker MV.

Will try and keep it updated but expect a lot more of forgetting on my part :P Still, this post will get updates.

This is my first time doing and posting about something like that, so feel free to guide me on how I should post my progress. Any advice really is more than welcome.

I am a :fiery: one-man army :fiery: on this, no prob, but if anyone feels like contributing in any way, do not be afraid to ask.

The buildin' will happen regardless of enthusiasm. Still, supporting can go a lot of way. So cheer on, y'all ! :proposetoast:

Aeido outdoors complete

Water. Water in PS4 is done with an 8x8 tileset (iirc). Long story short, will be using RPG Maker VX Ace's default one because I cannot
yet think how to implement the original
Mario RPG's Bowser is a riot, so there :bowser_laugh: :bowser_shock: ( I would abuse the fudge out of those if there were more :neenboo: )

I had made more than 60% of Motavia's map but then my hard drive had a heart attack and the *one* file that just *had to* get hurt was the map data one :'( So, I have to make it, again.

Question: I had decided to simply use RPG Maker's water tileset for the sea because I could not fit the game's natural tileset in Maker. If you have any suggestion on how to enter the tileset, I am listening :) Also, if you think that I should just put the whole map as parallax ( background ) and just edit passability, do you know where can I find the map or if I could rip it ? Keep in mind that the water is animated.

I will be slowly adding shadow effects rather than just copy-pasting the tiles. Although this will give a much more realistic feeling, I doubt it will be visible in the game. Still, it will be usefull ground work for when I will re-vamp the game after I finish the initial remake ;)

Well, I am being torn, right now. Seeing how MV has been out for 3 years already, should I switch now to it ? I mean, does the world treat VX Ace as obsolete now ?
It would take a couple of days to turn the resources into proper format but it could save time from making the game as it allows (finally) for more than 2 layers of graphics. I dunno, I think I could make the game happen with either...

I don't know what to think about it, as my knowledge concerning this fact is not very high ! But congrats and keep up the good work ! :)
