Ok we've got this entry on gamefaqs

http://www.gamefaqs.com/pc/953951-phantasy-star-iv

And we also get a lot of those on Yahoo Auction Japan

http://page21.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/a ... enlargeimg

and I mean A LOT!

By so far no pictures of what it looks like in real life. Can anyone tell me what is it? I'm guessing of course a cheap PC emulation of PSIV, but does it even come with a box and instruction manual? If so, is there any pic available of it somewhere on the internet. I'm really curious about this product. The fact that they released this in 2004 is even more weird. Can anyone help me?

but does it comes in a special box, and does the CD inside have a printing on it, and is the manual in color. Of course, I can guess the content, but the packaging is what I would like to see :)

That's really odd. There's no record of a 2004 PC version release in SoJ's game database, in fact there's no record of any of the original PS games being re-released on PC in Japan since the inception of the database in 1999.

So it is a bootleg. But it's the Chinese that seem to like doing that. >.>

Or does this happen with other games too? Seems like what ThugsRook is saying.

I've never been to China or Taiwan but I have seen discs like that for sale in India. Not for Phantasy Star but other bootleg discs that are either an emulator or old shareware games branded as something new.

Here's an example huguesjohnson.com/features/ReturnOfMari ... AndPacMan/

LOL, it was a great read Hugues. I didnt knew about this Mario and Pac-man compilation of crappy games bootleg

Anyway, about this PSIV PC, it seems from your replies that its not a "very" official product, and that I must stay away from it at any cost...if it's really a crappy illegal emulator and rom, I wonder why it was accepted on Gamefaqs...maybe I should put a submission to close it down, since it might confuse people. There was some post on the forum there, and the guy who submitted the game saw it like me for the first time on Yahoo Auction Japan, with not reliable info on it...

What surprises me is that whoever submitted it to GameFAQs apparently submitted the same poor quality photo of the package front that's on that Yahoo listing ytou linked to.

But indeed, it seems likely at this point that the prodct is some manner of a bootleg. Elsewise it seems likely that a copy would have turned up on Ebay by know had it been officially released in 2004.

I sent a new data submission on Gamefaqs, asking for the removal of this

I'm pretty sure there was an actual PC release of PSIV by Sega, but it would have been closer to the original PSIV release. I remember talking to people about it on the PSDB many years ago - before PS Online came around. No one ever knew much about it or could find any solid proof it was actually released, as far as I can remember. I think it was mentioned in one of the Japanese books.
