After learning of Zio's threats and the evil wizard's assault on the research team of Professor Holt, Hahn is determined to come to the professor's aid at once. As he begins to leave for Birth Valley, Alys reminds him in a whisper that sand worms are now in their egg-laying season. These huge native creatures found in the deserts of Motavia are powerful enough to make short work of any lone adventurer, especially one as relatively weak as Hahn at this point in the story. When Alys offers to tag along for 300 Meseta, plus expenses, Hahn quickly agrees.
He never actually paid for any expenses, however.
