Lune is an oddity that is not so uncommon on the Alisa III. Born over a thousand years before the story of
Phantasy Star III, he served as a general in an ancient conflict that reduced civilization to a feudal environment. Near the end of this Devastation War, Lune and his sister, Alair, were banished to a moon of the worldship against their will. They went into cold sleep to await a time when the old conflicts could be resumed, eventually waking to menace the Alisa III again during the life of Rhys' son. Eventually a peace was reached and Lune would become a respected political force, even charging his daughter with the task of helping to safe the ship.
Following in the footsteps pioneered by
Phantasy Star II,
Phantasy Star III: Generations of Doom gave each playable character an individual head shot portrait to make them more recognizable to players. This was especially vital for this game, which tended to use the same set of graphics for several characters with slight color changes. Unlike the similar pictures of Nei and friends, however, these portraits were used for speech in important story scenes and the standard character menu. The previous game restricted the portrait availability to Rolf's house, but this one allowed the players to see the characters at any time they were available for play.
