Phantasy Star: Fringes of Algo

The first Esper introduced during the course of Phantasy Star is Noah, also known as Lutz. This sprite is displayed when Alis first meets the Esper who caused years of gender confusion debates. Hiding himself away from society, Noah mediates and trains himself in the mystic arts. His secluded cave in the inhospitable deserts of Motavia allows Noah to unleash powerful forces without fear of harming others. The monsters infesting the cavern likely make good targets, too. Noah takes his training very seriously, even refusing to speak to Alis unless she brings a letter of introduction.
