The Phantasy Star II Text Adventures titles have been published in a few different formats over the years: as modem downloads, in Game no Kanzume, and in Phantasy Star Complete Collection. Among all these appearances, one little known oddity emerged. There were some changes made to the games for their Game no Kanzume release. One of the most visible such changes occurs in Rolf's game. We can see here the title screen from his modem game, with the text "Yushis's Adventure." Compare it to the Game no Kanzume version, which was altered to read "Eusis's Adventure."

What romanji did they choose in "SEGAAGES2500 PS Complete Collection" for PS2?

Do you mean for Rolf's name within the game text? I'm not sure; it didn't occur to me to compare those. I'll have to double check that later today.

Okay, having checked that now, they both use the same letters in the Japanese text, which can be seen on today's image of the day.

Now this is interesting! I must have played the Game no Kanzume releases. I've heard there are subtle changes like this throughout the text adventures, when they were ported to the Sega CD version. I've also heard that the Kanzume versions have more music, which holds true to the versions I've played. For instance, the music changes inside the disco and casino in Kain's game. It almost makes it worth it to keep the music on, so that you can hear the occasional changes as well as the occasional sound effect. Otherwise the music is pretty monotonous. This is the first I've heard of their being a difference in spellings, though. I guess I've always preferred the "Eusis" spelling as well, though the name has always seemed a bit weird to me. One of the biggest PS mysteries for me is who came up with Eusis/Yushis/Yousis/Eushys and why.
