Phantasy Star: Fringes of Algo

The Phantasy Star IV storyboards jump ahead quite a bit on this page. From the introduction of Lutz on the most immediate prior page, we are skipped to the end of the encounter with Lashiec. Rika, now back in her usual armored leotard instead of heavy winter gear, snatches the Eclipse Torch from the shambling undead tyrant. Next, Rune uses the Eclipse Torch - a scene that never occurs in the game. This may have been replaced later by the scene of Chaz using the Torch to destroy the forest of deadly Carnivorous Trees. In the final panel, Chaz finds himself face to face with the second Dark Force.

When Lashiec said he was melting it probably wasn't because of how many times we hit him... Maybe the real reason was because Rika "passed the torch" to Rune and he used it against the evil King... and, as the legend states, that torch emits a burning light that reduces the unworthy to ashes.

If that's correct (which probably isn't), then maybe they didn't show that in the game, because a similar scene would appear later (when Chaz used the torch against the Carnivorous Trees) which would become redundant.

If I hadn't played the game I would thought the second DF would have appeared right after Lashiec was consumed by the light of the flames.

That's an interesting theory. I always felt the light of the Torch should hurt Lashiec, being a zombie creature. The way he was able to actually hold the supposedly holy item never made sense to me. Rune using it on him would have created a nice closure with the heir of Noah ending the evil king.
