The guards posted at the entrances to major Palman towns in Phantasy Star have several duties. They protect the townspeople from the monsters rampaging in the wild, but also ensure that the people obey the will of Lassic. It was guards like these who left Nero for dead, setting Alis off on her quest to defeat the tyrant king. They also close the spaceports when Lassic decides to ban public travel between planets. These men are infamous for the similarities with Star Wars stormtroopers in their appearance, but they also have close story parallels as the enforcers for the regime's restrictions on freedom.
