Phantasy Star generation:1: Dr. Mad Portrait

One of the characters who has been most heavily redesigned in Phantasy Star generation 1 is Doctor Mad, or rather the Mad Doctor as he seems to be called in the Japanese text. His connections to Myau and his role in the story are enhanced somewhat in this remake. Even so, one might think the first unique boss character of the game would have a cutscene. Sadly, all he gets is this portrait and expanded dialogue.

From this headshot, it almost looks like he is a man in a suit of armor. Perhaps that is true to some extent, but his hands are definitely inhuman. Do you think he is a cyborg, part man and part machine, or a fully machine android? His white beret brings up the question of what role the insane scientist might play in Lassic's military establishment, if any. One thing is for sure... it would involve experimentation on Musk Cats.

Perhaps he is a bio monster.

I think the mad doctor was once a human being. Like Doctor Gero who turned himself into a cyborg (C20 in Dragon Ball series), this mad doctor must have made experiments in himself. Both must have been brilliant scientists that turned into mad "monsters". So, I think he is now some kind of cyborg or similar.

The expanded connections with Myaw and musk cat experiments were brilliant. In the original Phantasy Star these connections were implicit, but they were there (e.g. he is obviously interested in Myaw and already has a container specially made to store musk cat's source of power --- those laerma fruits).

The interesting thing is that now we can see those poor cats in the same glass containers where newmans (and other biomonsters) are before waking up. Maybe he was the first one to create biomonsters and, ironicly, the one that started NM project as well, before it was taken to the hands of the good guys.

This Mad Doctor is very very different compared to the one from the first PS (the original) !

Poor Musk Cats, and more here as this doctors seems to be a real monster...

That is one scary looking dude!

I don't want to have him in front of me one day !

He looks kinda like a monkey if you look at him from afar...

But jeez, he looks freaky.

Very freaky ! A sort of ape robot !

Not sure what he is exactly but Thoul lists a lot of possibilities to think about.

Still very freaky guy in this version !
