The next Phantasy Star collection...

Postby Thoul » Thu Apr 19, '07, 1:26 pm

Sega has announced the release of another collection of Phantasy Star games for later this year. It's supposed to be on the PlayStation 2 and include the original versions of Phantasy Star I, II, III, and IV. This collection marks the 20th anniversary of Phantasy Star, coming up in December.

What do you think, would you buy this collection? It's only been announced for Japan right now, but hopefully it will see a US release also. Some rumors say it might even include the PSII Text Adventures that haven't been seen since SegaCD.

I don't understand why Sega announced this collection. I can easy play them on PS2 using emulator of Sega Genesis/Master System. It seems to me, that Sega can make something bigger than 4 old games on DVD disc but they don't want to do it...
Please, excuse my terrible grammar! =)

Yeah, that Sega Classics thing just came out recently too, right? That doesn't make it seem very likely that this new collection will make it overseas.

I think it's just because of the anniversary coming up. Hopefully they'll throw in some extras beyond the four games to make people really want to get this.

I might get it, if it comes out in the US. If it doesn't, I may try to get that Sega Classics thing. I'm not much of one for buying re-releases of games I already have. I would like to have PS1 on a console, though.

I'm not sure if I'll buy it or not... I have II, III and IV already, on PSP, and I don't see that much point in paying like £30 or so to get one game I don't have already. Maybe if they release it with some other PS stuff too, I'll consider buying it.

It all depends on if it comes out in the US and what type of extras are on it. I recently picked up the Genesis Collection for PS2 (after 12+ years, my poor console has finally started to die *sniff* I needed my PS, Ecco, and Sonic, ya know?), so they'd really have to put some incentive in there.

If, for example, they packed the two remakes with it (wishful thinking, I know  ) I'd grab it, or if they included lots of production art, or even updated the translations... I'd be happy. Besides, it would be nice to own PS1 on a console since that's my favorite.

Well, I've seen it marketed as both the Genesis and the Megadrive collection, so... *shrugs* :)

Yep. in the UK the console was named Mega Drive, everywhere else it was Genesis.
