I don't know any Japanese at all. Adventure is hard to play without a translation, but easy with one. Generation 1 isn't hard, except for getting the roadpass. That's much more involved than in the original. The rest is fairly easy if you've played PS1. I get confused by the spell list now and then. I haven't finished the game yet, but that's more a matter of lack of time to play it than anything.
