Phantasy Star: Deluxe Edition: Man Eater

Postby Thoul » Mon Jun 14, '10, 12:01 am

Even the plants are dangerous on Palma! The Man Eater flower is a mobile monster with deadly whipping vines. It almost sounds like an action figure, but you would not want to meet a pack of these creatures when wondering alone. Their visual redesign is one of the most extreme to be found in Phantasy Star: Deluxe Edition. The cycloptic look has been replaced with two flowers, making it look much more like a wild plant.

Wow, that doesn't look anything like the original! I kind of liked the ooky-looking one in PSI, but this one is deceptively evil, which could certainly work in its favor.

Aww man, you can't call these "Purple People Eaters". =/

The color looks more like the Dead Tree.

Hey that is kind of strange. I forgot the maneater was purple. :D I wonder what the deadtree will look like now., though I'm guessing they'll have given it a new sprite too.

The Dead Tree is basically the same as the Man Eater, but it has a purple tint. I guess this is another pair of monsters that have swapped color schemes, like the Fishman and Marman. I didn't notice it when playing the game.

Ah of course. I forgot about the colour swaps on those two. I guess this means there are plenty more like this.

By the way, I noticed that you typed "planets" when you meant "plants" at the start of your first post.

Ah, thanks for pointing that typo out. I've fixed it now.

I didn't notice any other color swaps, but then I didn't notice this one either. There was one battle in Bala Malay, a scripted battle with skeletons, that I think used the name Stalker but the color scheme for the regular skeletons. That struck me as odd since the random Stalker battles used different colors.

Bumping up this former Image Of The Day!

The Man Eater looks like a lovely flowering plant but this plant can be deadly!! Beware!!

In this version of a certain great game, the Man Eater seems to be a lovely flower ground ! Maybe with this thing just in front of me, I would have sort of liked being eaten !
