Phantasy Star: Fringes of Algo

This early sword from Phantasy Star III features a very abstract hilt design. It looks as though keeping a good grip would be challenging for even a trained swordsman like Prince Rhys, the most likely user of this weapon. The dull brown coloring gives the impression that the blade might be rusted, but perhaps merely represent an earthen material used to craft the item.

Indeed a rather strange sword. As you mentioned, Thoul, it must be an early blade in the game, probably the short swords, since the weapon is small. Can't figure out how one could handle it but maybe the odd hilt is the reason why you even have to use the short sword with two hands. I don't think it is necessarily rusty. It appears more like an old sword from the Bronze Age with an unfamiliar design. It looks cool but also not too useful. Although I am pretty sure that especially Rhys will find a way to use it effectively.

Yeah, I couldn't really decide which of those the color was supposed to represent. I like the Bronze Age style concept. If the base were a little more ordinary, that would have probably been emphasized more in my description. That weird handle just throws the whole piece in a strange direction.

It's indeed a very weird handle..hard no to feel a hand-ache after having it in his or her hand...Bronze age style concept is so great !
