As the third game in the
Phantasy Star series was such a departure from the previous title in atmosphere, it is fitting that the logo was also greatly changed. The metallic, golden tints of the
Phantasy Star II logo remained on the subtitle, but the recognizable unique font used for the original two games was dropped in favor of gigantic letters with even more stylized shapes. Cloud patterns on the S give it the appearance of a planetary atmosphere, reflecting the Alisa III's nature as a contained world. The chromed columns represent the technological aspects of that ship, while also hinting at the regression to a more primitive level of civilization with their classical design. It is a very creative design, but the lack of spelling out "Phantasy Star" doomed the logo to use for only this one game.
