Only one piece of artwork in the Phantasy Star III manual and republished in Phantasy Star Complete Collection hints at the three generational nature of the game's storyline. This image illustrates the progression from Rhys, to his son Nial, and finally to Nial's son, Aron. Each has a truly distinct and unique appearance, but there is still a family resemblance. Ayn and Crys are also featured separately in other artwork, but there is no indication of their relationship in those.
