One of the most basic of weapons available to travellers in the Landen dome of the Alisa III is a common knife. This artwork illustrates that these simple blades have some rather elaborate decoration in the hilt. The hand guard serves as a symbol that the knives are intended for actual combat, rather than more mundane uses. When facing a biomonster with sharp claws or venomous teeth, the guard might provide vital protection to the wielder's fingers. Unfortunately, this was not reflected with a slight defense statistic boost in the game.

You know, that is odd, considering knives did give a minor boost in defense in some of the other games. I never really paid attention to the stats in PSIII, though, so I also learned something new. :D

I really like this design along with all of the artwork you've posted so far of the PS Complete Collection.

As far as I remember, steel knives indeed give a defense boost of 3 points. But I am not sure.

I confirm ! Look at this page : shrines.rpgclassics.com/genesis/ps3/wea ... pons.shtml You were right : steel knives gave a +3 defense bonus ! Well done :)
And like Tanith, I learned something new ! Thanks :)

It's good to know that some knives did give defense boosts after all. That would make the design more practical. Still, it's a shame more of the knives didn't do that. This artwork was labeled as simply "knife" in the manual, so I think the basic weapon called Knife in the game needed a defense boost, too. ;)

At first hand, a knife is a weapon ! But if the knife is labeled with a sort of protective hilt, why not add a defense bonus ? :)
