Back in the day, game manuals included instructions on how to care for your newly acquired cartridges. Manual designers, at least those in Japan, had some fun with this by including colorful illustrations indicating what owners should not do to the games.
This Phantasy Star III manual illustration must have been set during the period before Maia regained her memories. Otherwise, I'm sure she would have known better than to sit on her game cartridge. I mean, imagine how uncomfortable that would feel. You just been out all day, you come home to sit down in your favorite chair, and suddenly there's a hard plastic cartridge poking you. That's gotta hurt. It's probably not too good for the game, either.
