Phantasy Star Collection (Saturn): Zio Design

This Phantasy Star IV production document reveals some of the design sketches created for Zio's appearance in the game. His interface with Dark Force is highlighted. At the bottom right, we can see a breakaway view of his gloved left arm. This arm is horribly corrupted by Dark Force's influence, a fact not revealed in the game. Material from this page was reprinted in Phantasy Star - Official Production Compendium, where the page is described as a settei sheet.

This reminds me of King Midas from the Greek Mythology. He also need a glove, because every person he touched became a statue, even his daughter.

Assuming that Zio transforms flesh to stone with that hand (since he didn't tried to convert us into stone with his magic powers during the battle), I think the main difference here is the material:

While Midas touch became gold Zio's became stone, like Medusa's curse (another Greek Mythology featured in PSI and Pre-PSI). The difference between him and Medusa is that Zio is a man and Medusa was a woman, and a little more consumed than him.

Yeah, King midas from the greek mythology you're right ! But Midas..Wasn't he reknown for his ability to turn everything he touched into gold ? But maybe I'm wrong !! Gold or statue it's quasi the same so
Magnificient drawing and I haven't even saw it really in the compendium ! I also have the Phantasy Star Collection on Saturn but never really try it, just for the collection..I cannot even remember if I can launch it !

Yes we can see very well that his right hand is under a gauntlet but I never known that ! Like I say often to my pupils : "we learn things every day, even the adults" and it's true !:)

Ah, his hand isn't as bad as I thought it would be... it makes me wonder what Juza looks like under his cape..

Isn't as bad ? Me wo doesn't know at all that his hand was monsterized (as translated in Rbecca Capowski's Compendium translation) I find it to be "very bad" ! But knowing Dark Force as all phans know him it's logical

Yeah, I guess you're right, haha...It's bad enough..
It's just that I read "monsterized" and think deadly claws or something more grotesque-looking..

I see ! we all have different way of view on different things and that's great ! After we can discuss it here as a fan of claws would have been great ! I always found Zio to be very class (even after Alys's death...)
